Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev won his first trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a difficult period, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-term trainer Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his maiden championship since the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after that period of 2023.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved 21 titles at 21 various events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children at once, so to win a championship is really nice," stated ranked player the champion.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in Halle previously this season.

His defensive play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led commentators to doubt if his ability to play at the top level was over.

However the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced service.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

The opponent saved 4 early chances in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner clinched the title with a shot at the net area, with his opponent incapable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
